16.5 Acres In Dayton Tennessee

Second Floor Floor!

Or upstairs floor? Or second floor sub floor? How do you say that properly? Well anyway, we can now walk around the second floor!!! These guys can get a lot done in a day. We stopped by today as the crew was heading out and saw lots of progress.

The joists and sub floor is done on the second floor and wall construction will start tomorrow.

We were so excited to get out and see all the work that we forgot to take a photo from the car. So here is Mike looking at the ceiling in the garage wondering if a car lift will fit.

We also realized we haven't really shared a photo of the kitchen/dining area yet. So here you go! Smallest window to your left will be over the sink. Patio doors in the dining area to the back porch and a set of double windows.

And from the other side of the room.

And Liz just being weird with Mike capturing the moment.

Expect a photo of the staircase in almost every post. We just love it so much and really want to track the progress on it.

So we head up....

...and see floor!

Side note - those joists are sticking out since we called for a curve along the railing here.

And from the loft looking at the staircase.

Yep - every view from up top. Did you expect any less?

And Mike loves his panoramic photos. From the back corner above the master bedroom, the view from the second floor is stunning. But walls will be going up here soon.

Seeing the second floor sub-flooring done brought up a lot of layout questions about the upstairs. Should that wall go there? What about the hallway space? And is the loft large enough? Why didn't we think to add a window there?

We will be meeting with our builder at dinner time tomorrow (aka lunch for those non-Dayton TN readers) at the house to discuss some more specifics. We also found out tonight they are building the trusses on-site (instead of ordering them) since it will be a fairly complicated roof line. This is a bit more labor intensive, but good news for us as it means we don't have a potential of 3-4 weeks of downtime with nothing happening.

One more update - they added a header and posts to the back porch to support the "big bedroom" (as we haven't totally decided which one will be a guest room versus a craft room).

That is all for today (and I thought it was a lot!). Until more walls go up tomorrow and we have more to share.

Toodles!

~Liz and Mike
